The annual FIS Ski Jumping World Cup pits the very best athletes the sport has to offer against each other, in a quest to become the world's number one.
Zakopane is a town in southern Poland, located at the foot of the Tatra Mountain it is known informally as 'the winter capital of Poland'. It is a popular destination for mountaineering, skiing, and tourism. The very first ski jump at mount Krokiew in Zakopane was constructed in 1925 and inaugurated on March 22. Four years later the Nordic Ski World Championships were hosted there. The World Cup first made an appearance in 1980, since the late 1990's however the competition and it's fanatic Polish supporters have been a constant on the World Cup calendar.
Zakopane is a lovely town situated at the foothills of the majestic Tatra mountains. The unusual location of the town, hidden between a gentle range of Gubałówka and the rocky Tatra summits was a decisive factor in its career as a tourism centre.
